Curtains as Wall Art

CURTAINS  AS  WALL  ART

Just installed in a client's home last week: A good investment in wall art
(And in keeping the heading bill down, by convering up a draughty villa door.)

This fabulous fabric is hand screen printed by the girls at Ink and Spindle.
Birch in Inky Blue.

Wellington Better Home & Living Show

It was a busy weekend down at Westpac Stadium for Wellington's first Better Home & Living Show. Here are a few pics of what was there and some new product that we have been working on.
The Organic Cotton, Hemp and Linen Bedspread/Duvet with Trade Aid Block printed stamped detail,. This can be made to order in your choice of fabrics.  Great if you just can't decide which fabric to choose, just get one of each!! And it is made so the cover can go to the floor.  Just put a larger inner inside, so you don't fight with your bed partner over who has more of the covers.

This fantastic lampshade base made from an old recycled banister, was painted using all natural Bio-paints, made from natural plant based resins and waxes, minerals and waxes.  The shade is made from pin-tucked silk.  I love the combination of textures! Base $210, Shade $135

This beautiful Ginger Jar Ceramic lamp is thrown and glazed in New Zealand with an Aqua crackle glaze.  The shade is covered in Hemptech's Spinnafex Linen.  (Did you know Spinnafex on the beach helps keep the sand dunes in place?) Base $498, Shade $160

This gorg headboard is covered in a Hemp and Silk Satin. There were no glues used in the construction of this headboard, and no petro-chemicals.  It is all naturalle baby! The frame is made from untreated pine, and is covered in Natural Latex Rubber Foam and wool.  Made to order in your choice of fabric.  This one is $879.
The cushion on the left was designed by Wellington's Anthea Grob of Eco fabric. It has been digitally printed on a heavy weight organic cotton and hemp, so is suitable for upholstery too.   It was also upholstered on a recycled chair, but the chair sold before we could take a good picture.  There is more fabric available to order if you have your own chair to upholster, or Verdant can source one for you.

This selection of wallpapers, are printed on recycled paper using water-based inks.  They come from Sweden and have several colourways available.

This wallpaper called Cotton Tree is from the UK and is printed using non-toxic organic pigment inks on PEFC certified paper. It is also available in Buttercup Yellow, Sunset, Gunmetal, Sky Blue & Snap Dragon Red.

We also have a new lovely and soft Organic Cotton towelling range, and the brand new Sleep Frog organic cotton bed linen.  More to come.

ECO INTERIORS

BLOG
ECO INTERIORS
I am becoming less of a fan of the word Eco, as it seems to be increasingly over used and there are different interpretations. Considering it means ecology, I am starting to think more about using the term being environmentally aware. Being aware about what affect the things you choose has on the environment.

However, choosing the right things for your home is never black and white. In a conversation about leather with a client recently we discussed the options. On one hand we have NZ grown leather, but it is preserved using harmful chromium metals.  On the other hand we have overseas tanneries that use a 'Free of Chromium' method to preserve the leather. However, the overseas version not only increases the carbon footprint exponentially, but the tanning process that is used is a synthetic one.  Synthetics often mean some degree of petro-chemicals is included. So to put it very simply, we either drill the land for metals, or we drill the sea bed for oil.

Mix black and white and we get grey!  The choice comes down to what shade of grey you like!
